Laura Pennell

Playing From The Heart is written by Charles Way, it was written about Evelyn Glennie’s childhood, and how she lost her hearing but carried on her ambition and dream to be a musician. She is an incredible role model and I enjoyed the challenge of designing the best environment to share her life’s story. I’m very passionate about theatre being accessible for everyone. . I chose to do an elected project as I wanted to gain experience designing a touring production. Through tutorials I was encouraged to find a specials school I could visit to measure the space but also meet the children and staff to get a better understand of the audience’s needs. I chose the venue of Oak Field School which is a special school in Nottingham for children with learning difficulties and or disabilities. I thought that this would develop my skills within design as I believe I want to pursue a career working with children and people with disabilities.
